Chemistry - Year 6

In this unit, Brunei National Disaster Management Centre asking pupils to develop a documentary about the impact of the natural disaster on the environment.. The BNDMC officer is inviting an officer from the Human Resources Department, Ministry of Education to help the pupils in making documentary. The unit also provides an overview of the different types of natural disasters and their effects on our environment.

Episode 1

In the first episode, Ultimate Volcano, the pupils look at the factors affecting the flow of lava.  This will help them to carry out an investigation to test how volume, viscosity and slope affect the flow of lava. As well as to apply understanding of factors that contributes the destruction of the environment.

Episode 2

In the second episode, Crunch Time, the pupils look at natural disaster, earthquakes and tsunamis. This will help them to gain knowledge on the formation of earthquakes and tsunamis on earth and their impacts on the environment.

Episode 3

In episode 3, Freaky Weather, the group of pupils are lucky to work with the HRD officer and to become young journalist to document causes and factors contribute to flood and drought in their journalist journal. They will also have an opportunity to make a documentary to help the BNDMC officer to promote awareness on natural disaster. They are taken through the process of analyzing and documented their findings. They complete the episode by building a floating garden model, answering questions to test their understanding from episode 1 to episode 3 and making a storyboard using photo story software.

Episode 4

In episode 4, Active Earth Documentary, pupils plan, and develop their documentary based on the information they have collected in Episode 1, 2 and 3. They also have the opportunity to develop their IT skill in making a documentary using Photo story software. The pupils planning, communication, and IT skills develop as they go through series of activities.
